Adolf Menzel's Death Mask |
|
Graphite, 344 x 274 mm; inscribed most likely by the artist at the
bottom: “A. v. Menzel v. G. Boese.” (A. v. Menzel by G. Boese).
Conservation: well preserved, but slightly yellowed at the edges
This posthumous portrait of Menzel, executed after 1905, is a document
of the great veneration and esteem for the king of draughtsmanship in
Germany at the time of the late empire. |
