 |
Pencil, 348 x 417 mm.
Inscribed by the artist in pencil in the bottom right-hand corner:
“Monaco 12/1 1877 – EDo… abbreviation in ligature – Mio Atelier“
Condition: 2 vertical creases in the right half; rather foxy, laid
down.
The view of the studio was created at the end of an approximately
five-year stay in Munich, where Donadini was master pupil of Carl
Theodor von Piloty. However, the influence of Hans Makart, whom
Donadini had met in Venice, is unmistakable.
The motif is a typical late 19th century studio with an overabundance
of requisites, which were used for complex picture arrangements and
were simultaneously intended to amaze visitors with their opulence.
The nonchalant mannequin in the centre of the picture, dressed in
Renaissance garb and striking an almost lifelike pose, gives the
picture a rather whimsical touch.
