Stag bellowing in forest
landscape |
|
Pencil and black ink, 108 x
153 mm;
Verso: forest interior, pencil sketch.
Condition: well-preserved.
One of the leading landscape painters of Austrian Late Romanticism,
his drawing technique with its virtuoso spontaneous abbreviations,
clearly differed from Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller's more naturalist
approach.
(Other sketches by Gauermann are available).
