Graphite, edging lines in light brown, 293 x 313 mm (sheet), 265 x 286
mm (motif).
Condition: Paper rather rippled, a fox mark on the left-hand edge of
the picture.

Pupil of Peter von Cornelius in Düsseldorf and Munich and after 1837
court painter to King Ludwig I of Bavaria also employed by King
Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia in Berlin from 1847. He created
frescoes based on historical themes for the latter in a "historical-symbolic"
style. In addition, he also produced an increasing number of sketches
and illustrations from the 1830s onwards, which were extremely
well-received by the middle-classes.
