The drawing was executed during Nathes stay in Switzerland in 1783/84. According to an inscription on the verso: »bey Syders in Ober Wallis gezeichnet« (drawn close Syders in Ober Wallis).
Nathe produced this watercolour about 12 miles away from Sitten at Syders, probably based on an earlier sketch after nature.

The sheet was cut at the margins and is layed down on very fine India paper, partly bleached.

Provenance:
Private collection, Germany

Attribution:
We are greatful to Dr. Anke Fröhlich (Dresden) for the attribution and informations about similar views by the artist. She will include this drawing into her forthcoming catalogue raisonné of Nathe's drawings (Letter dated: 06.01.28).
