Five male heads of different ages as »têtes d’expression«

 

Burnt red chalk, edging lines in grey ink, on thin hand-made paper, 203 x 314 mm. Probably transferred to stiff hand-made paper as early as the 18th century, 204 x 337 mm.

Condition: well-preserved.

Pierre was a pupil of Charles-Joseph Natoires (1700 – 1777) and a scholarship holder in Rome from 1735 – 1740. Thanks to the patronage of Madame de Pompadour, Pierre was involved in important decorative schemes at, among others, the Palais Royal and the Palace of Fontainebleau.
