Central Italian landscape with trees

 

Graphite, approx. 221 x 284 mm (rounded corners). Inscribed by Alphonse Dupont in brown ink on the lower edge of the base sheet:

“Reynolds Peintre de Paysage. (allemand mort à Rome en 1824)“. Verso: written in pencil in an old hand on the upper central part of the back of the sketch: “no. 6 Dupont“.

Condition: one small tear parallel to the lower edge outside the illustration; several small fox marks on the left and right edges.

Taken from the Album Amicorum of the French painter Alphonse Dupont (1794 – 1877), which contained works by contemporary and older artists.

J. Schnorr von Carolsfeld described Reinhold as follows in 1824: “Reinhold is, without doubt, one of the leading young landscape painters. His talent…., is now visibly unfolding”.
