After an initial period at the Dresden Academy, Reinhold continued his
studies at the academy in Vienna from 1807 - 1809. He spent time in
Paris between 1809 and 1814, where he contributed to a work on
Napoleon's campaigns, acting as an engraver on behalf of Vivant Denons
(1747 - 1825). He returned to Vienna from 1814 to 1819. He
subsequently took up residence in Rome from late autumn 1819 until his
death. He maintained friendly relations with J. A. Koch (1768 – 1839)
and J. Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1794 – 1872). It was during this period
that he became a landscape painter and draughtsman.
J. Schnorr von Carolsfeld described Reinhold as follows in 1824:
»Reinhold is, without doubt, one of the leading young landscape
painters. His talent…., is now visibly unfolding.«
