Probably preliminary
studies for the extensive commentaries on Homer by the Eutin-based
scholar Johann Heinrich Voß (1751 Sommerstorf – 1826 Heidelberg);
Brown ink over preliminary drawing in graphite.
Verso: figure study of Laocoon in graphite, seen from the right-hand
side. Probably inscriptions by Tischbein on the verso.
Hand-made paper with watermark: coat of arms, split in two; above this
a male knee-length figure with outstretched arms. German around 1800.
Condition: paper yellowed; creases on the edges outside the
illustration.
